Why not come and explore the 31-acres of Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park’s woodlands and meadows for your next team-building session?

Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park is London’s most central woodland and together with Ackroyd Drive Greenlink and Scrapyard Meadows offer 31 acres of opportunity. The site is managed by the Friends of Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park – a small charity with big ambitions and much experience of preserving, protecting and promoting the nature and heritage of this very special site.

We offer flexible corporate and group volunteering days to suit groups of all types and sizes and help to deliver your corporate social responsibility (CSR) needs. We’ll work with you to develop a team challenge day that perfectly meets your requirements. We’re flexible in our offer – we can host shorter days, give guided walks, offer activities, and we are happy to work with you to find something that suits your needs.

Why join us for a team-building day?

If you’re on this page, it’s likely that you already know the benefits of taking a step outside of the office!

Green spaces offer a great environment to relax and appreciate nature as you connect with colleagues and friends. Activities can also foster healthy competition as colleagues learn more about each other, and help foster collaboration and creativity. They can also help show employee appreciation and recognition.

“We would like to thank you for the effort and time you spent into making our community day efficient and fun. I have organised a number of days, and the time we spent with you was brilliant. I loved the way you told us all about the history of the Park before we started so that we got a true feeling of how we were helping to keep the history and the future of the park alive.” Steve, Barclays

“Thanks for having us! It was a great day, people really enjoyed being outside and in nature. Doing manual work as well makes a big change from being sat in an office most of the time!” Apeksha, Accuracy

What to expect

On a nature conservation volunteering day you’ll have a friendly member of staff with you all day. Your team will do seasonal tasks such as removing weeds, planting wildflowers and bulbs, felling and planting small trees, litter picking, and repairing paths.

Physical tasks and being outdoors in nature boosts morale, improves physical and mental well-being and gives a sense of achievement. As well as getting an excellent workout, corporate volunteers contribute to the important nature conservation work we do in the park which directly benefits wildlife and the local community.

Get in touch with us at contact@fothcp.org to find out more. Please include:

  • The size of your group (a minimum of 12 and a maximum of 100).
  • The ideal date you’d like to visit. We usually host groups from Wednesday to Friday.
  • The duration of the event (whole or half-day), and the type of event that you are interested in, we offer a number of options that you can read here.

We are happy to arrange a time to speak so that you can decide if the day suits your needs and we can also meet you at the Cemetery Park so that you can see the Park and meet our group leaders.

We prioritise bookings from organisations that can pay. Fees start at £35 per registered person for Nature Conservation volunteering, but we’re happy to discuss alternative options (e.g., fundraising or donation).

During our peak volunteering season, 1st April to 30th September, we are unlikely to be able to accept groups who are unable to pay or donate for their volunteering day. However, in our quieter seasons, winter, and spring, we have plenty of interesting work that groups can carry out (tree planting, hedge planting, bulb planting, wildflower planting and path construction) that we always need groups to participate in and we are more flexible with our fee structure during these times.

Once we have confirmed your volunteering day, we create a registration website page for your team that provides all of the information that you need for your volunteering experience, from what clothes to wear to where and when to meet. At this point our cancellation fees become applicable:

  • A cancellation more than 1 month before the date of volunteering day will be charged at £210 (50% of our minimum group size booking rate), plus £150 for groups of 25+ due to additional staff costs for larger groups.
  • A cancellation within 1 month, and up to 7 days of the date of volunteering day will be charged at £420 (100% our minimum group size booking rate), plus £150 for groups of 25+ due to additional staff costs for larger groups.
  • A cancellation within 7 days of the date of the volunteering day will be charged at £420 or pro rata for the number of registrations that the group has made for the day, whichever is the greater.

Safety information

All of our activities are designed to be interesting and safe, a staff member from the Friends of Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park will be with you throughout the day, providing briefings and supervision. All supervisory staff are First Aid trained, DBS checked and to ensure a successful day we provide a staff member for every 25 members of the visiting group.

A comprehensive tool safety talk and demonstration at the beginning of the day prepares you for your work and we have detailed risk assessments in place. The Friends of Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park has public liability insurance for all of our activities and we can provide you with relevant documentation upon request.

We’re happy to discuss a schedule to suit your needs. We have five standard options that we can offer groups, with both full day and half-day options.
