With 31 acres of woodlands, meadows and monuments, located within one of the most densely-populated and green-space deprived boroughs in the country, Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park is a place where all are welcome to enjoy nature and conservation, heritage and history, and connect with the community through a range of events, tours and volunteering.

But what is a Cemetery Park? 

We are proud to be recognised as a Green Flag Award winning public park and especially to be recognised as one of only two nature reserves in the borough through the habitats and species that our staff and volunteers nurture. But we are equally proud of our heritage as one of the Victorian-era garden cemeteries (as the East End’s very own ‘Magnificent Seven’ cemetery), and the value of reflection and remembrance for the community. Our designation as a Cemetery Park reflects the delicate balance of the site in being many things. 

Local residents can simply wander the cemetery park, or join an event hosted by the Friends. Our calendar includes a range of educational talks and tours on a wide range of topics – family grave research, conservation (bird, bat, butterfly, bee, and many more!), foraging, arts therapy, wellness and wellbeing. We run an extensive volunteer programme which takes our sensitive, hands-on approach to conservation seriously. We also promote a number of community events, including the Annual Summer Fair and Remembrance Day.
