Description

Hidden Histories follows the lives of servicemen who were born in the East End, but also those from Canada, Australia and New Zealand who never returned home. In many cases their lives have been traced for the first time, the result of over two years genealogical research by the heritage team of the Friends of Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park and volunteers who joined the Heritage Lottery funded project.

‘Hidden Histories brilliantly reconstructs the stories of the men whose names are inscribed on the City and Tower Hamlets War Memorial as victims of the Great War. The book is not just an eloquent commemoration of forgotten lives; it is an indispensable contribution to the social history of the East End.’
– Professor Jerry White, Birkbeck, author of Zeppelin Nights. London in the First World War (2014).
