Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park and Ackroyd Drive Greenlink are located in Tower Hamlets. Everyone is welcome to enjoy them. Many people enjoy walking, jogging and relaxing within the cemetery park, and appreciating it throughout the seasons.
The Cemetery Park is accessible 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
The main entrance, marked by its original Victorian-era gates, is on Southern Grove, and is usually open from dawn until dusk. Opening times may occasionally vary. Pedestrian, bicycle and wheelchair accessible gates on Hamlets Way and Cantrell Road are open 24 hours. The park is not open to vehicles without prior arrangement (see below).
Friends’ staff are typically onsite Monday to Friday, 09:00–16:30, though we also run a number of evening and weekend events. The Friends administrative offices are in the Cemetery Park Lodge by the main (Southern Grove) gates, and most of our events start from here or within the Soanes Field Centre. Please contact us prior to your visit if you would like to speak to a staff member.

We are aware that there is currently no dedicated bicycle storage onsite, and this is something that we hope to address in our coming work onsite. Please note that any bicycles brought to the site are left at your own risk.
There is no designated parking onsite. If you have specific access needs, please contact us in advance at contact@fothcp.org to arrange parking prior to your visit. Authorised parking is extremely limited, and any vehicles parked without prior permission may be removed.
On-street parking is available nearby, including on Southern Grove, and subject to posted restrictions.

The Cemetery Park features a variety of grounds and terrains. The main entrance on Southern Grove is wide, and opens onto a flat, accessible area.
The main paths in the Cemetery Park are flat or gently sloping, around 1-2 metres wide and surfaced with either crushed concrete fines—a hard-packed fine gravel that remains firm even in wet weather—or natural earth. Other paths, particularly towards the centre of the Cemetery Park, are more uneven and can become muddy after rain.
A circular route around the Cemetery Park is approximately 1km, with one steeper slope and some gentle inclines. Two areas have steps, though alternative step-free routes are available.
Benches with backrests are placed at regular intervals throughout the Cemetery Park.
For those attending scheduled events hosted by the Friends, the Soanes Field Centre and Cemetery Park Lodge are best accessed via the Southern Grove entrance. Both buildings have ramp access and accessible toilets.
Unless otherwise stated, all events meet at the Cemetery Park Lodge or the Soanes Field Centre. The nearest entrance to these is in the north-eastern corner of the Cemetery Park, just off Southern Grove E3 4PX.
There are no public toilets within the Cemetery Park.
During activities and events hosted by the Friends, toilet facilities will usually be made available to event participants, in either the Soanes Field Centre and/or the Cemetery Park Lodge, as directed by staff.
Baby changing facilities are available within the Lodge, and we can offer a private space for breastfeeding upon request. Unfortunately, there are no adult changing tables or hoists onsite.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome to enjoy the space – but please do pick after them. The space remains an important site for reflection and remembrance, and many visitors still attend to graves.
The London Borough of Tower Hamlets has designated all its streets, parks, open spaces and housing land under the Dogs (Fouling of Land) Act 1996. This means that dog walkers must clean up immediately after their dog – no excuses. Owners must carry poop scoops and/or bags for cleaning up after their dog. Clean up must be immediate. Not noticing that the dog has fouled is no excuse – it is the dog walker’s responsibility to be vigilant.Failing to clean up after your pet can lead to prosecution and a fine of up to £1,000.
To protect the Cemetery Park’s wildlife and heritage, dogs may need to be kept on a lead in certain areas at specific times of year (e.g. nesting season or new planting). Please follow any signage or instructions from park staff, and respect these requests.
